About Charles Town
Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races, commonly known simply as Charles Town, is a Thoroughbred racetrack and casino in Charles Town, West Virginia, roughly sixty miles northwest of Washington, D.C. Opened in 1933, it races on a tight six-furlong dirt oval — one of the shorter main tracks in North America — which gives its races a distinctive, sharply turning character. The track runs live racing year-round, typically as evening cards several nights a week. Its best-known stakes events have included the Charles Town Classic and the West Virginia Breeders' Classics. The facility is part of a larger casino, hotel, and racing complex operated by Penn Entertainment.
