About Canterbury Park

Canterbury Park is a Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse track in Shakopee, Minnesota, within the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. It first opened in 1985 as Canterbury Downs, closed for live racing in the early 1990s, and was revived under its current name in 1994. The track features a one-mile dirt oval with chutes and a turf course, and runs a summer meet that typically stretches from mid-May into early September. Among its featured events are the Minnesota Derby and the Northern Stars Turf Festival. Today it operates as Minnesota's primary racetrack, paired with an on-site card casino.
