About Ellis Park
Ellis Park is a Thoroughbred racetrack in Henderson, Kentucky, located just across the Ohio River from Evansville, Indiana, and nicknamed "the Pea Patch." Racing on the site dates to 1922, and the track took its current name in 1954 in honor of owner James C. Ellis. It features a large dirt oval of about a mile and an eighth with a turf course inside it, and runs a short summer meet. Owned by Churchill Downs Incorporated, Ellis Park hosts the Ellis Park Derby, a Kentucky Derby qualifying race, and the graded Groupie Doll Stakes. Its purses are supported in part by historical horse racing gaming operated under the same ownership.
