About Evangeline Downs
Evangeline Downs is a Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racetrack and casino in Opelousas, Louisiana, in the Lafayette area of the state's Acadiana region. The original Evangeline Downs opened in 1966 near Carencro, and racing relocated to the current Opelousas racino in the mid-2000s. The track races on a one-mile main oval and hosts both Thoroughbred and American Quarter Horse meets over the course of the year. It is often cited as the site of Louisiana's first pari-mutuel racetrack and is operated today by Boyd Gaming. Live racing is paired with year-round casino gaming.
