About Laurel Park
Laurel Park is a Thoroughbred racetrack in Laurel, Maryland, between Baltimore and Washington, D.C., operated by the Maryland Jockey Club. Opened in 1911, it features a main dirt oval of about a mile and an eighth with an inner turf course, and has long shared Maryland's racing calendar with Pimlico. Its stakes calendar includes the Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash, the Barbara Fritchie Stakes, and the General George Stakes, and it annually hosts Maryland Million Day. In 2026 Laurel Park hosted the Preakness Stakes while Pimlico was closed for reconstruction — the first time in more than a century the Triple Crown race was run elsewhere. Plans call for the facility's role to shift toward a Thoroughbred training center once Pimlico's rebuild is complete.
