About Penn National
Penn National Race Course is a Thoroughbred track in Grantville, Pennsylvania, about seventeen miles east of Harrisburg. Opened in 1972, it races on a one-mile dirt main track with a turf course and is notable as one of the few American tracks to run nearly year-round, typically with evening cards. The track is best known as the original home of its parent gaming company, which grew from this single racetrack into the major national casino operator now known as PENN Entertainment. Its program centers on claiming and allowance racing rather than marquee stakes. The facility operates as a combined racing and casino venue.
