About Pimlico

Pimlico Race Course, nicknamed "Old Hilltop," is a Thoroughbred racetrack in Baltimore, Maryland, and the second-oldest Triple Crown venue in the United States. Opened in 1870, it is the longtime home of the Preakness Stakes, the middle jewel of the Triple Crown, first run in 1873. Historically the track featured a one-mile dirt oval surrounding a turf course, and its stakes calendar has included the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes. The aging facility closed in 2025 for a major state-funded reconstruction, and the 2026 Preakness was run at nearby Laurel Park while the work was carried out. A rebuilt Pimlico is planned to reopen and welcome the Preakness back to Baltimore.
