About Santa Anita
Santa Anita Park is a Thoroughbred racetrack in Arcadia, California, set against the backdrop of the San Gabriel Mountains in the Los Angeles area. Opened in 1934, it is celebrated for its Art Deco architecture and is often regarded as the first major Thoroughbred track established in California. The track features a one-mile main dirt oval and a turf course with a distinctive downhill hillside chute. Its signature races are the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby, a leading Kentucky Derby prep, and the Santa Anita Handicap, known as "the Big 'Cap"; the park has hosted the Breeders' Cup more times than any other track. Santa Anita also staged equestrian events at the 1984 Olympics and is slated to do so again for the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
