About Fort Erie

Fort Erie Race Track is a Thoroughbred track in Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada, set in the Niagara region just across the border from Buffalo, New York. Opened in 1897, it is widely regarded as one of North America's most picturesque racecourses and features a one-mile main oval with an inner turf course. Its signature race is the Prince of Wales Stakes, the middle leg of the Canadian Triple Crown. The track holds a Thoroughbred meet through the summer and into the fall and is the only Thoroughbred venue in the Niagara region. It earned a place in racing history in 1963 when the legendary Northern Dancer broke his maiden there.
