About Los Alamitos
Los Alamitos Race Course is a racetrack in Cypress, California, in Orange County, best known as the premier home of American Quarter Horse racing in the United States. Opened in 1951 and built around Quarter Horse sprinting, it hosts the sport's richest events, including the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity, the world's most lucrative Quarter Horse race. The track is celebrated for staging more million-dollar Quarter Horse stakes than any other venue in the country. Long associated with founder Frank Vessels Sr. and later owner Dr. Ed Allred, it has been a center of Quarter Horse competition for generations. The dirt oval was expanded to a full mile in 2014, allowing the track to add Thoroughbred racing alongside its Quarter Horse calendar.
