About Louisiana Downs

Louisiana Downs is a Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racetrack with a casino in Bossier City, Louisiana, near Shreveport in the northwestern corner of the state. It opened in 1974 and races on a one-mile main dirt oval with a turf course. The track is historically known for the Super Derby, a race for three-year-olds launched in 1980 that once drew some of the nation's top horses for a late-season showdown. Louisiana Downs was built by shopping-center developer Edward J. DeBartolo Sr., who also developed tracks in Ohio and Oklahoma. Today the facility operates as a racino, pairing live racing with year-round casino gaming.
