About Assiniboia Downs

Assiniboia Downs is a Thoroughbred racetrack in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, operated by the Manitoba Jockey Club. It opened in 1958 as the successor to the city's earlier Polo Park track, a project tied to prairie racing pioneer R. J. Speers, and races on a compact dirt oval of roughly six and a half furlongs. Its signature event is the Manitoba Derby, the highlight of a Thoroughbred season that runs through the summer months. The track sits on more than 350 acres on the western side of Winnipeg. It remains the province's primary venue for Thoroughbred racing.
